Designer Profile

Name: Johanna Mäkipää

Slogan: "Do something that no-one expects."

"I'm inspired by different materials and surfaces from old times. My reason to create new is to take old things away from their basic surroundings and bring them into a new one. I love stories behind the materials. In my designs, you sense the world where they are coming from. They bring memories into your mind and you get the feeling that you want to touch the surface. I'm focusing on fantastic details and high quality. My style as a designer is utilitarian and distinct but still very refreshing."

A/W footwear collection for men
The story behind the collection: "I run from the anxiety and rush of the city. I run away from the city and turn on a path in a forest. At the end of the path I find an abandoned house.
Curiosity fills me and I start to explore the surroundings. I see a piece of history, a time patinated world. Peace, quiet... All the things and worn down surfaces... What a fairytale world!"

Today's thoughts: "I am now going from the designing state to the actually-doing-something stage and I'm excited to see if the products come out the way I had in mind. Lasts, that's to say the forms have been chosen and now I'm hunting downs suitable materials and also making the patterns. There's no doubt the spring will be really busy and there's little room for slipping.

Thoughts about the future: "Hopefully the sun will come out soon, it gives me more energy!"

To the Readers: "You might want to stop by here as well."

Name: Eija Hänninen
Slogan: "Last minute the best minute"

"I get my inspiration from music, movies and abstract things. As a designer I still feel very adolescent, but I gain support from my artistic background."

Designer philosophy: "I plunged into the world of opera by listening to music, reading librettos, googling pictures etc... I also listened to classical music and Nightwish when it still had Tarja turunen. I began to illustrate an imaginary opera that wasn't real. I noticed that a skull bird from my art project a few years ago was appearing in the pictures. I started to design shoes for my imaginery opera!"

Today's thoughts: "I'm so busy and exited for I've only done three pairs of shoes in my entire life. Do I have enough skills to create a perfect footwear collection?"

Thoughts about the future: "I hope we manage the coming spring without a nervous breakdown. I hope the show will be amazing!"
