Coming Soon to the Nearest Studio Tähtitorni

The fifth of May is coming with hurry and we hope you are prepared to the coming event.

Remember that the parking space is very limited. We recommend using the public transport or your very own feet. Even if you don't like fashion, do come for the music and the popcorn.

And if you love fashion more than everything else then you must make sure you're on the spot as early as you can. This is the fashion event of the year you can't afford to miss! and if you happen to have something more important than this (which is very unlikely) then you can also watch the show online later when our website opens.

We will all see you there and please don't hesitate to talk to us. We might look busy but we all love to chat with anyone who asks about our collection.

So, Don't miss the fashion event of the year! Double Bill presents End of an Eira is coming soon to your nearest Studio Tähtitorni.

Name: Reta Raven

Slogan: If you want to be loved Be lovable

Design philosophy:
I change my style as often as my hairstyle changes. Same thing happens when I design. I try not to follow same pattern and I’m always trying to design something new, something exiting.

My collection was inspired by superheroes. But when I got deeper in to that world I noticed it’s all about divided personalities. So I decided to show what would my fantasy alter ego shoes look like. I use very classic court shoe style mixing with a high platform and edgy high heel. Accessories comes with surprises.

Today's thoughts: I'm waiting the last minute panic.

Thoughts about future: I can’t wait to get to the Italy ;)

About the fashion show : The laws of fashion are about to break…. Buckle up and DON’T
COME ALONE

Name: Anna Koljander

Slogan: Be wisely bonkers.

I keep my designs simple, but always with a
little twist or a detail that makes the whole piece special.
I have studied footwear now for almost six years.
A good job for someone who chose to study
shoemaking by accident! My inspiration comes
from my life: it's simple and safe and almost
always fun and full of laughter! I am surrounded
by people who make me be me.

My design philosophy:
I got the inspiration for my collection
from two things: the paintings of
Helene Scherfbeck and knitwear. You won't
see any paintings in my shoes though, the inspiration is
about the delicate feelings that hide behind the pictures.
Knitting has been my passion since I was a little girl.
I have used knitted pieces in my shoes before, but for
this collection I wanted to play with the proportions a
little and see what could be done.

Thoughts about today:
The shoes are almost done! Some of the accessories are
done aswell.
I seem to come up with a new idea for something
great every day, who knows what will still emerge from the
depths of my mind!

Thoughts about the future:
To be perfectly honest I can't wait to see my products
on the catwalk.
That means this huge project is over
and summer holidays will start!

To readers:
I'll see you in just a few weeks!

Slogan: One makes mistake when being too hasty.

Me as a designer:
I try to think out of the box.

My design philosophy:
I got my inspiration for puzzles and riddles.
In my collection I try to use recyclable materials with new ones. I intend to keep a simple style combined with something unusual. In this case the formations of surface and pockets. There can be something mysterious in clothes and problem solving is a vital part of making the clothes.

How's it going?
At this moment I'm sewing final garments and making last changes.
Thoughts about the future:
It's going to be grazy and hazy, but that's the excitement of this industry.

To readers:
Hang in there, this fashion show is going to be a spectacle!

Name: Matti Koivula

Slogan: One should never stop daydreaming.

Design philosophy: There are plenty of things already in this world but why so much of it looks the same? I want the world around to be pretty to look at. With my design I want to create surprises, give excitement and pleasure of discovering aesthetics in the every day life.

Today’s thoughts: I've been a bit nervous about the d-day as it's comeing closer, but in general I'm feeling good and thinking, I'll be ready to present my work. The sun starts to be warmer and brighter. That gives me power.
Thoughts about the future: I don't know about the future but I hope it'll be good for me. I don't need too much from the future. I just wish to do what I want and what I know best.

To readers: Make at least one regular day in week for your "Look Good, Feel Good"-day. Enjoy your coffee, take some extra time for choosing your shoes and clothes, look twice in the mirror. I'm sure you'll enjoy and it only takes some 15 minutes more of your time!

See you on the fifth of May!

Name: Vinícius dos Santos

Slogan: the light that hangs on the line dividing the South America.

Design philosophy: If I forget my roots and my culture, I would stop being who I am. Things that exist without culture are empty and unneeded.
In my design I use my culture, my people, my roots and my place, to create shapes and purposes. My design is made of who I am and all the people that made me be somebody, so my design is made for people by people.

Today’s thoughts: I've been thinking about the spring, about this new experience that is coming, I never have being in some spring outside Brazil before, so I’m wondering about the new smells and feelings that will come with this season. Without big worries, trying to live day to day.

Thoughts about the future: My future will always surprise me, I just know that tomorrow everything will be new. And this makes me happy, keeps me alive, because nothing can be better than the things that you will still experience.

To readers: “Creativity is fantasy allied to accomplishment. Accomplishment without fantasy creates bureaucrats. And Bureaucrats determine our unhappiness”.

See you in the fashion show!

Name: Kaika-Tuuli Mäkilä

Slogan: "Only from quality materials you can make quality products."

Since little girl I have always been very interested in fashion and designing. I made my first collection in 2007. Inspirations and ideas to the collection I got from the Paris, where I was studying fashion in 2006. As a designer I am a perfectionist. I am very hard and demanding for myself, and I want that the quality is nothing else than superior. I always reach for perfection, and I don’t want to make compromises. I have found my own unique style that I purposefully follow.

Design philosophy: In this collection I wanted to combine different kind of materials and mix soft and hard together. That’s why you will see lots of metal, chains, leather and covered woolen fabrics tailored in very feminine shapes. I was inspired by queens and duchesses and that mysterious dark feeling of their time.

Today's thoughts: There is so much to do in a so little time, but I think I can make it! Timetable is pretty tight, but luckily I love challenges!

Thoughts about the future: I’m pretty excited. We will have fantastic fashion show!

Name: Suvi Leinonen

Slogan: If at first you don't succeed you won’t be thrown in a garbage bin.

As a designer I feel like a little princess who still wants to become a spaceman. I’m very proud that someone could even call me a gee and I’m currently trying to reinforce that thought by going to geeky places and doing geeky stuff.

Design philosophy: I want to design something amazing and I’m not settled untill people who see my clothes just stare them with eyes wide open. I’m interested in historical gowns as well as science fiction and fantasy. For me fashion is not an every-day thing, it’s something more than that. What comes to my collection, I’m trying to mix lights and fabrics together to create something really futuristic mixed with fantasy elements.

Today’s thoughts: I’m very busy at the moment with everything. I’m also very excited.

Thoughts about the future: I hope out fashion show will be remember for a long time or better, it would become something next to a cult.

To readers: I wish you all read this blog and I also wish you’d come to the show. I’ll see you there.

Name: Soile Vuorimäki

I've followed my driving teacher's advice in life since I turned 18 'cause he always used to say to me: "what's the hurry in this ready world?".

My Top 3 inspiration sources:
1. youth
2. pretty boys
3. enjoying life

Design philosophy: I want my collection to be something that helps me to keep my mind in the best things in life, those which mostly for me happens in the summer. While it's freaking cold, dark and easily depressing here in the north, who cares! We can still put our shades on and color our walls to yellow.

Also one of the main things I want to show is that making clothes doesn't have to be hard and nasty. All you need is an idea, a doll and some fabric.

See you pretty soon in the show, it's gonna be grreat!

Today’s thoughts: I’m feeling good! There is already light when I´m cycling to school!

Thoughts about the future: I’m pretty excited! There is so much to do. I think it´s gonna be sweet thought..

Name: Miila Ljud

Slogan: May the Finnish Footwear Industry rise again!

I want to design normal shoes to normal people to be used in normal situations in normal life. Not too brassy, not too boring.

Design philosophy:
For this collection I was inspired by Finnish nature. Last summer I saw a landscape of great spruces with fireweed in front of them. It is easy to ignore that kind of view because in Finland that time of year, it´s all over. I couldn´t help thinking, how to take some of it into my collection. I began to explore it more and more and found wonderful colors, shapes and textures from the forests and nature.
I have a tendency to see loveliness and miraculousness in little things and things that others could find really modest. I think that´s a rather childish thing in me. That´s why I wanted to bring some naivism to the collection as well.

Today's thoughts: Now I´m a third year student in HAMK Wetterhoff and if everything goes the way I have planned, I graduate in spring 2011.

Thoughts about the future: Spring is coming and it is my new favorite season. Everything starts to move and shine, grow and blossom!

To readers: Finland used to be a cutting edge country of shoes, and I want it back. Demand your shop to order better-looking Finnish shoes from the factories.

Name: Johanna Mäkipää

Slogan: "Do something that no-one expects."

"I'm inspired by different materials and surfaces from old times. My reason to create new is to take old things away from their basic surroundings and bring them into a new one. I love stories behind the materials. In my designs, you sense the world where they are coming from. They bring memories into your mind and you get the feeling that you want to touch the surface. I'm focusing on fantastic details and high quality. My style as a designer is utilitarian and distinct but still very refreshing."

A/W footwear collection for men
The story behind the collection: "I run from the anxiety and rush of the city. I run away from the city and turn on a path in a forest. At the end of the path I find an abandoned house.
Curiosity fills me and I start to explore the surroundings. I see a piece of history, a time patinated world. Peace, quiet... All the things and worn down surfaces... What a fairytale world!"

Today's thoughts: "I am now going from the designing state to the actually-doing-something stage and I'm excited to see if the products come out the way I had in mind. Lasts, that's to say the forms have been chosen and now I'm hunting downs suitable materials and also making the patterns. There's no doubt the spring will be really busy and there's little room for slipping.

Thoughts about the future: "Hopefully the sun will come out soon, it gives me more energy!"

To the Readers: "You might want to stop by here as well."

Name: Eija Hänninen
Slogan: "Last minute the best minute"

"I get my inspiration from music, movies and abstract things. As a designer I still feel very adolescent, but I gain support from my artistic background."

Designer philosophy: "I plunged into the world of opera by listening to music, reading librettos, googling pictures etc... I also listened to classical music and Nightwish when it still had Tarja turunen. I began to illustrate an imaginary opera that wasn't real. I noticed that a skull bird from my art project a few years ago was appearing in the pictures. I started to design shoes for my imaginery opera!"

Today's thoughts: "I'm so busy and exited for I've only done three pairs of shoes in my entire life. Do I have enough skills to create a perfect footwear collection?"

Thoughts about the future: "I hope we manage the coming spring without a nervous breakdown. I hope the show will be amazing!"

The Beginning of The End of an Eira

The beginning of the end is here. We have felt it – and when we have finished, you will feel it too.

This is the opening post of our blog. We wish you great time reading our blog as more post will come weekly. We will introduce ourselves and our design philosophies to you before the fashion event itself. You’ll have a unique opportunity to get to know us and live with us as we organise this huge spectacle.

Right now we have had our first meeting this year. With our separate groups we will start working on different subject from building to catering. It requires immense amounts of work from all of us, but we are still exited as ever to do this, for a designers is not a real designer is he/she has not been presented in a fashion show.

In order to do this all we need help. Our wonderful sponsors will be able to give their support to us in the time we need it most. We thank them deeply and million times for their efforts, for they are the ones that make all of this possible.
